Campaign Story

Hi there! My name is Amanda and my Husband’s name is Brock! A little bit about our journey so far…we have been trying for over 1.5 years to conceive. After 6 months of trying naturally, given my age (now approaching 37) we turned to an OBGYN for guidance. Blood tests were run, a not so fun HSG was performed and my husband had a complete SA. Every test came back normal time and time again. We were relieved and continued to try naturally for another few months. As we were approaching the 1 year mark my OB recommended Letrozole. I did my first round in February 2024. On the day I was due to ovulate, I ended up in the ER with 4 hemorrhagic cysts that had developed on my ovaries (both sides). By far THE MOST excruciating pain I have ever experienced! I was told to have a recheck ultrasound done 6 weeks later to confirm they had resolved on their own.

Upon that recheck, 3 of the 4 cysts were still remaining and had not shrunk in size. I was told that only 1 out 4 of my cysts had been a hemorrhagic cyst, the other 3 were actually endometrioma cysts and my OB gave me the unfortunate news that I had endometriosis. We were then referred to a fertility specialist to discuss our options with this new diagnosis.

Given my age, my new Doctor did not want me to undergo surgery to remove the 3 cysts on my ovaries as it will harm my egg quality and ovarian reserve. We decided to start with IUI as the cost is much more approachable. However rounds later and still not one positive pregnancy test….

We have hit the point that we need to proceed with IVF if we want to truly have the best shot at starting our family. I have an added risk as they will need to rupture my cysts for the egg retrieval but the added pain and discomfort is well worth it to me.

The impacts of endometriosis on fertility are still such an unknown. Like many women’s health conditions, not a lot of funding has gone towards studying this disease. We hope IVF will be the answer for us!

Thank you for taking the time to read our story!
